Safety & Identity

Privacy First

At TriviaMix, your privacy is a priority. We operate on the HybridIRC network, ensuring your connection is handled with industry-standard protocols.

  • Minimal Data: We do not require registration to connect or play.
  • SSL Encryption: Always use port +6697 for secure, encrypted chat.
  • IP Protection: User IPs are automatically masked (cloaked) on the network to protect your location.

Player Safety

We strive to keep the #trivia channel a friendly environment for knowledge enthusiasts of all backgrounds.

  • Blocking: Use /ignore [nick] to instantly stop seeing text from specific users.
  • Reporting: Use our contact page to drop a line regarding persistent harassment.

Best Practices

Stay safe while competing by following these simple IRC security tips:

Stay Anonymous

Never share your real name, physical location, email, or phone number in the public channel lines.

Be Link-Wary

Only click links from trusted sources. Our official scores, games, and web pages are always served securely over HTTPS.

Protect Nicks

Registering your nickname protects your identity, prevents impersonation, and keeps your trivia scores linked to you. Use a strong, unique password and never share your login details with anyone — including channel staff or network administrators.

Keep Your Trivia Identity

TriviaMix scores, streaks, rankings, and achievements are directly linked to your IRC nickname. Using the same nickname consistently preserves your stats and lets other players recognize you on the boards.

Register Your Nick

Protect your nickname with NickServ so nobody else can claim it or steal your rank while you are away.

Keep Your Scores

Scores and leaderboard history are strictly tied to your active nickname. Changing names splits your stats.

Build Recognition

Regular players will recognize your handle over time, helping build community standings and friendly rivalries.

Useful Identity Commands:

  • /msg NickServ REGISTER [password] [email] — Lock your current nick to your account.
  • /msg NickServ IDENTIFY [password] — Log into your registered nickname.
  • /msg NickServ HELP — Pull up the full account help directory.

Safety Commands

Type these directly into your chat entry bar to quickly manage your client environment:

  • /ignore [nickname] — Instantly hide all messages and actions from a specific person.
  • /whois [nickname] — Check if a user is securely logged in (helps spot fake accounts).
  • /silence *!*@* N — Block all private notices.
  • /silence *!*@* P — Block all private messages.
  • /silence *!*@* T — Block all tag messages.
  • /join #help — Teleport directly to the network's general support channel.
